सुशीला कार्की, ७ जुन १९५२ मा विराटनगरमा जन्मनुभएकी, नेपालको सुप्रीम कोर्टको मुख्य न्यायाधीश बन्ने पहिलो र एकमात्र महिला हुनुहुन्छ। उहाँले ११ जुलाई २०१६ देखि ७ जुन २०१७ सम्म मुख्य न्यायाधीशको रूपमा कार्यभार सम्हालेर नेपालको न्यायिक इतिहासमा गहिरो छाप छोड्नुभयो। बनारस हिन्दू विश्वविद्यालयबाट राजनीति विज्ञानमा स्नातकोत्तर र त्रिभुवन विश्वविद्यालयबाट कानुनमा स्नातक गर्नुभएकी कार्कीले १९७९ मा कानुनी अभ्यास सुरु गर्नुभएको थियो। उहाँ २००७ मा वरिष्ठ अधिवक्ता र २०१० मा सुप्रीम कोर्टको स्थायी न्यायाधीश बन्नुभयो। सुप्रसिद्ध न्यायाधीश हुनुका साथै सुशीला कार्की एक कुशल लेखिका पनि हुनुहुन्छ। उहाँको आत्मकथात्मक पुस्तक "न्याय" (२०१८) उहाँको संघर्षमय र प्रेरणादायी यात्राको कथा हो, भने दोस्रो पुस्तक "कारा"(२०१९) पञ्चायती शासनकालमा विराटनगर जेलमा उहाँले भोगेका अनुभवहरूमा आधारित उपन्यास हो। कानुन र साहित्य दुवै क्षेत्रमा उहाँको योगदान अनुकरणीय छ, जसले नयाँ पुस्तालाई प्रेरणा दिइरहेको छ।
Sushila Karki, born on 7 June 1952 in Biratnagar, is a distinguished Nepalese jurist and the first and only woman to serve as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Nepal. She held this prestigious position from 11 July 2016 to 7 June 2017, leaving a significant mark on Nepal's judicial history. Karki earned her master’s degree in political science from Banaras Hindu University and a law degree from Tribhuvan University. Beginning her law practice in 1979, she rose through the ranks, becoming a Senior Advocate in 2007 and later a permanent Justice of the Supreme Court in 2010. Karki is also a celebrated writer, having authored two books. Her autobiographical work "Nyaya", published in 2018, chronicles her remarkable journey, while her novel "Kara" (2019) is inspired by her experiences during the Panchayat regime, set in Biratnagar Jail. A trailblazer in her field, Karki’s contributions to law and literature continue to inspire generations.
